VP Scales and Constitution updated (31/10/06)
For longer than I care to remember I've had an action to bring the constitution page on the
web site up to date. I have finally got around to doing this. At the same time I have
updated our VP scales to reflect reality. For the last two seasons the league has been using
the VP scales in the EBU Tournament Director's Handbook (the White Book) but displaying an
entirely different set of (out of date) scales on the web site. This has now been fixed.
Please accept my apologies that it has taken me so long to get around to this (anyone
want a job as webmaster?).
League AGM 27 April (17/3/06)
The league AGM will be on 27th April. See calling
notice and agenda for more details.
Free Scoring Software (27/1/06)
I thought I'd put in a quick plug for Duplicate Scorer - yours truly's duplicate pairs
scoring package. You may have heard about it before but have you looked at the package
recently? It has really come of age - now supporting the wireless Bridgemate system,
handicapped pairs, Butler tournaments and automatic calculation of EBU Master Points.
The new Club Option Pack extends it into a full club management system allowing you to
keep track of membership and even do electronic crediting of members' Master Points with
the EBU. For more details and free download, click on

Score Adjustments (14/12/05)
Some of you may notice that your league VP score has mysteriously changed today. It has just
been brought to my attention that the copy of the league rules and constitution on this web
site is out of date. I shall rectify this shortly but the important point, so far as score
is concerned, is that the VP scale in the old constitution no longer applies. The current
constitution specifies that we use the scale in the EBU White Book.
Last night's league committee meeting resolved that this should be rectified immediately (and
retrospectively) as the current scoring is unconstitutional. I have therefore re-scored all
league matches using the EBU scale. The differences are minor but you may find you have
gained or lost the odd VP in borderline cases.
Please accept my apologies for getting this wrong up until now. If you have any questions
about this or your revised score, please email me.
Provisional Diary Date: EOS 2006 (14/12/05)
The date for the End of Season pairs has been provisionally set for 4th May, 2006. Put it in
your diary now.
Could You Be Treasurer? (14/12/05)
The current league treasurer will shortly be moving out of the area. If you think you could
perform this vital task, essential to the continued running of your league, please contact
the secretary Alan Brown.
Rearranging League Matches. (16/9/02)
Now that the new season is underway, I'd like to repeat my annual reminder that all
match rearrangements must be reported to the
Results Secretary.
This isn't just because I'm a control freak. If you don't tell me a match has been rearranged
then I can't tell the scoring software. Your match will therefore be flagged as a late result
and you'll have the committee police chasing you!
Please remember also that a venue switch counts as a rearrangement. If the league
schedule says Reading home to Wimbledon and I receive a result which is Wimbledon home to
Reading, the scoring software won't recognise this as the scheduled match even if the dates
correspond. The Reading home game will therefore be flagged as a late result.
Contact Details (please!) (4/9/01)
I am trying to build up a list of club and team contacts on the web site, but I understand
that not everyone is willing to have their name and phone number or email address posted
on a publicly accessible web site.
In respect of contacts' rights to privacy, I will only publish your details if you
explicitly tell me you are happy for me to do so.
If you are a club or team contact, go to the League/Cup Results
and Information page to see the sort of thing I have in mind and then
email me if you are happy for your contact details to appear. There's a link
to email me on the results and information page.
